Washington, D.C. – The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) this week announced that U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake has received the highest score of any member of Congress on the watchdog group’s congressional scorecard for 2013. According to NTU, those scores - based on every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy - are intended to reflect a member’s support for reducing or controlling federal spending, taxes, debt and regulation.
Flake’s high score qualified him as one of 13 senators to receive NTU’s “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” for 2013.
"It's nice to have others recognize what my wife has known for years - that I'm a cheapskate," said Flake.
“Sen. Flake’s pro-taxpayer score of 96 percent was the best in the entire Senate,” NTU President Pete Sepp said. “By casting principled votes for limited government time and again, he has led by example in the fight to defend overburdened taxpayers across the country.”
