Washington, D.C. – The Senate today approved U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake’s (R-Ariz.) amendment to S.754, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA). Flake’s amendment creates a ten year sunset and keeps in place the liability protections established by CISA for information shared pursuant to the requirements of the bill. The amendment also ensures that the requirements on how the information shared under the act is to be handled remain in effect even after the sunset date.
“I am a believer in sunset provisions for most things we do here in Congress,” said Flake. “They force us to reconsider our past decisions, determine if what we enacted is operating as we intended, and debate the overall success of the legislation we pass.”
