Flake Statement on Federal Court Ruling Against Controversial FAA Flight Paths In Phoenix
Posted on Aug 29 2017
PHOENIX – U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Court of Appeals District of Columbia Circuit ruling against the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) flight path changes at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport:
“I am pleased the DC Circuit Court has recognized the FAA’s failure to adequately engage the local community and stakeholders of Phoenix in the creation of new flight plans for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Hopefully this decision will result in the FAA taking the necessary steps to mitigate the negative effects their original decision has had on local communities.”
Background:
- On December 23, 2016, a provision authored by Flake and U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was signed into law requiring the FAA to review flight path changes like those in Phoenix and take steps to mitigate the negative effects these changes have had on the community.
